Mortgage Interest - Foreign Home

For information about whether you can claim the mortgage interest paid on a foreign loan for a foreign home, go to the IRS website.

Online
Dashboard
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Deductions & Credits. 
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
  2. Click the Your Home drop-down.
  3. Click Add beside Mortgage Interest & Refinancing
  4. On the screen Here's a review of your mortgage interest reported on Form 1098, click Continue.
  5. Click Yes when asked Did you pay any mortgage interest not reported on Form 1098?
  6. Enter the required information, then click Enter a foreign address to toggle to the foreign address entries. When complete, click Continue
Classic
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal. 
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
  2. Click the Itemized or Standard Deductions drop-down, then click Interest expenses.
  3. Continue with the interview process until you reach the screen titled Did you receive Form 1098 reporting mortgage interest?, click No
  4. On the screen titled Did you pay any mortgage interest not reported on Form 1098?, click Yes.
  5. Enter the required information, then click Enter a foreign address to toggle to the foreign address entries. When complete, click Continue
Desktop
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal. 
  2. Click the Itemized or Standard Deductions drop-down, then click Interest expenses.
  3. Continue with the interview process until you reach the screen titled Did you receive Form 1098 reporting mortgage interest?, click No
  4. On the screen titled Did you pay any mortgage interest not reported on Form 1098?, click Yes.
  5. Enter the required information, then click Enter a foreign address to toggle to the foreign address entries. When complete, click Continue
