Form 1040 - Disability Status
1
The TaxAct® program will automatically determine if the credit from Schedule R is applicable on the return based on the information entered (e.g. date of birth).
If you are expecting this credit to calculate on your return, and the credit is not appearing on Schedule 3 (Form 1040), make sure that you have made the proper selections for the status and have entered the retirement income.
For steps on selecting blind or disabled, see the FAQ Status - Entering "Blind" or "Disabled" in Program.
For information about Form 1099-R, as well as entering Type of Income (and the checkbox if you have not reached retirement age), see the Form 1099-R - Entering Distributions from Retirement Plans FAQ.
See the IRS Instructions for Schedule R to see who can take the credit and for details on what is considered a permanent and total disability. See IRS Publication 524 for details about records and statements that may be required.
